Celebrating 280 years of Limagrain’s Vilmorin brand

Welcome to the fascinating story of Vilmorin!

Since 1743, Vilmorin has handed down its passion for plants and horticulture from generation to generation. It all began in our first shop on the banks of the Seine River in Paris. We introduced vegetables with funny names and pioneered sugar beet when France’s sugar cane supply was cut off by the English blockade during the Napoleonic wars. We even helped Mr. Parmentier make the potato a staple. It may not have happened without us.

In 1766, we had another idea: selling our seeds in packets. From the first seed catalogs to our development of hardy new varieties, at Vilmorin (a Limagrain Group brand), we put centuries of plant innovations into the palm of your hand.

This video highlights the key milestones of nearly three centuries of seed innovation and sales. Today, that history is still being written within Limagrain Group, which Vilmorin Jardin and Vilmorin-Mikado joined in 1975.
